How can a Trimester 1 pregnancy vitamin help?
High in folic acid
Folic acid contributes to the development of maternal tissues (e.g. placenta, embryo, etc.) and normal amino acid synthesis during pregnancy. Increased levels of folic acid are needed during the planning period and the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Supplementing with folic acid increases maternal folate intake. Low maternal folate levels are a risk factor for the development of a developing foetus with an anterior fetal septal defect. The target group is fertile women who can benefit by taking a supplementary dose of folic acid of 400μg per day for minimum one month before and three months after conception.
